On Monday night just before 7pm the rescue squad was activated to reports of a cat in a large tree in Paxton.

Upon arrival the cat was in a large tree and it was a delicate operation to bring the cat down to safety.

After a short period of time and a few meows later, the cat was back with the grateful owner who was very pleased with the outcome and the cat sustained no injuries at all.

On Wednesday at approximately 4.50pm the squad was called to Big W Cessnock to help a child with his head stuck in a toilet training seat.

After a short time and no distress to the child, the toilet seat was cut and removed from the child and no harm to the child and a very thankful parent.

At approximately at 8.50pm that night units were called to Northcote Street, Kurri for a possible persons-trapped accident.

Upon arrival of units there was no persons trapped, however members were required by NSW Ambulance Paramedics to remove the passenger side door to allow better access to the patient for treatment.

Members remained on scene for a short time to assist the removal of the vehicles and clean-up of the scene. Northcote Street was closed for a short time and traffic diverted around the scene.

On Friday around 8.50pm the squad was activated for a persons-trapped accident on John Renshaw Drive just outside Stanford Merthyr, where a small red hatchback had collided head-on with a tree.

The driver was trapped for a short time while rescue squad members used hydraulic jaws and cutters to free her from the vehicle from the passenger side.

Squad members assisted paramedics to extricate and treat the woman and transport her to John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

John Renshaw Drive was shut down to one lane for some time until the accident was cleared.

Meanwhile, with the warmer days and months ahead of us snakes are on the move and there have already been some calls for assistance by the public to have them removed from backyards.

If you see a snake, have someone keep an eye on it and call the rescue squad on 4991 2444 and members will attend ASAP to try to locate the snake and remove it if found to a safe location.
